Mr N. A.
K. Reddy |
THE NDR Group, which has over three decades of experience and expertise in the business of warehousing and logistics, commenced its container freight station (CFS) at Nhava Sheva in January 2006. Located very conveniently near Jawaharlal Nehru Port (JNP), the facility, known as Continental Warehousing Corporation (Nhava Sheva) Ltd (CWC) (NS) Ltd and termed as the logistics hub, is emerging as one of the most prominent CFSs in the JNP area in terms of size and facilities.
Developed in 2 phases, the present 'CFS' is set up on a total area of 33 acres, with handling capacity of 10,000–12,000 TEUs per month. The total enclosed area comprises 3 warehouses measuring 2,35,000 sq. ft. In addition to this facility, NDR also operates a CFS in Chennai and construction of ICD/CFSs at Indore and Tuticorin is nearing completion.
The CWC (NS) claims many firsts to its credit:
The only operational CFS to provide paved empty storage yard in the adjoining area, with repair facility.
The largest bonded area of about 1,00,000 sq. ft.
A dedicated customer service/grievance cell.
Truck parking space on own freehold land.
Plans for general warehousing space (distribution centre) in the adjoining area, with provision for all value-added services.
Business centre within the complex to facilitate clients.
The facility would also have a much bigger empty storage depot, state-of-the-art software, latest handling equipment on ownership/lease, best supporting systems in the industry and a professionally-run management/organisation.
![]() ![]() |
The NDR Group currently has the largest warehousing network in the private sector in the country, encompassing 4 million sq. ft. of covered storage area in 64 strategic locations across the country. Managing these warehouses is a 1,000-strong trained workforce.
The NDR Group, collectively, is the custodian of cargo worth Rs 2,000 crore on any single day. All its warehouses are operating at maximum capacities. Among its prominent clients are Reliance Infocomm, Castrol, Philips, Kodak, IBM, Bax Global, India Cement, Pantaloon, Sony and Sony Music, to name a few.
The Group provides complete door-to-door supply chain and logistics solutions by providing, among other things, CFS/ICD services, Customs-bonded warehousing facilities, inventory management services and Customs clearing and forwarding services. Almost all MNCs in India are its clients.
The NDR Group has made a foray into port logistics. It has been allotted a 250-metre ready-to-operate jetty in Jamnagar, Gujarat, on a 25-year lease by the Gujarat Maritime Board. The Group has also signed a 30-year lease agreement with the Maharashtra Maritime Board, in terms of which, permission has been obtained for construction of a multi-purpose waterfront of 3,400 metres near its existing CFS in JNP. The Group is also investing in creation of integrated food parks in Panvel, Jamnagar, Tuticorin and Chennai.
The Group's strong legacy,
expertise and range of tailor-made services is now being witnessed at CWC (NS),
which has been planned to develop into a one-stop shop, providing all services—that
surpass expectations and boost business goals—under a single umbrella, thereby

Maersk CFS |

Maersk CFS (MCFS) was inaugurated in May 1994, yet another milestone in Maersk India’s endeavour in offering value-added quality services to the customers. Incidentally, Maersk was a pioneer in setting up a CFS facility in Dronagiri Warehousing area, as MCFS is the first private sector managed facility. MCFS is strategically located off National Highway – 4B, at the Dronagiri Warehousing Complex and within a distance of just 11 kms. from JNP/GTI/DP World Terminals.
To keep in pace with growing demand in JNP region, the facility has been undergoing series of contiguous expansions and today the total plot size admeasures 6.8 Hectares.
The facility comprises of the following:
Container Yard: Open paved yard, storage capacity 3,500 TEUs.
Warehouse: 4 warehouses, with chassis and ground stuffing.
Support services: Canteen, EDI, offices, repairs and other facilities.
Reefer: 36 Reefer plugs with round-the-clock monitoring.
MNR: Own equipments backed by expert MNR team.
Equipment: A fleet of reach stackers, empty handlers, forklifts, chassis, DG sets and UPS.
Over the years, MCFS has enhanced the service coverage to keep pace with the market trends and demands. Maersk CFS now offers import en bloc movement and on the export front, offering various value-added services such as Bar Coding, labelling, shrink wrapping, specialized palletisation. To enhance customer satisfaction, MCFS has substantially invested in IT systems, cargo handling equipments, security and fire- fighting systems. For example, MCFS is the first facility to have CCTV cameras to avoid pilferage of cargo and also the first CFS to own and maintain the reach stackers, the backbone of any CFS operation.
MCFS, although a Maersk owned facility, it is truly a common, user and neutral facility. The overwhelming patronage of the facility by leading consolidators and forwarders stand testimony to this fact. With well designed, paved and illuminated yard, warehouse in place, supported by focussed customer service, the volume throughput and cargo dwell time at Maersk CFS is by far the best in the industry. MCFS is in a position to offer CFS services to customers in a cost-effective and customer-friendly environment.
The existing facility is already operating at peak capacity. To cater to the growing demands of the trade, MCFS acquired additional land measuring 56,000 sqm. in Sector 6, Dronagiri, to set up another state-of-the-art, modern CFS—Maersk CFS Annex (MCFS Annex).
Built using innovative technology, it was inaugurated in June 2006. Maersk CFS Annex is designed with a Single Window concept. For CFS customers, it is a one shop stop arrangement for Customs formalities, EDI document processing and collection of CFS dues with adequate waiting area. The 24x7 operations, enabling efficient cargo movement continues to be the plus point for Maersk CFS Annex as well. This professionally-managed facility enjoys excellent relations with the Port, Customs and Government bodies, providing most satisfactory services to its esteemed clients. Best of freight forwarders from the industry are with Maersk CFS since inception of the first facility in 1994 and their continued support stands testimony to the fact.
This second facility comprises of the following:
Container Yard: Open paved yard, storage capacity 3,000 TEUs.
Support services: Canteen, EDI, offices, repairs and other facilities.
Reefer: 24 Reefer plugs with round-the-clock monitoring
MNR: Own equipments backed by expert MNR team.

In just 13 years of its existence, the company has entrenched itself well, not only on the Indian logistics scene, but also at a global level achieving a global footprint through the acquisition of the Belgium-based ECU Hold NV. Allcargo is India's largest privately-owned logistics company and is overall second to CONCOR. Allcargo's success stems from its commitment towards providing world class logistics services to its customers. At Allcargo, the customer remains the focal point in the formulation of services that can be provided. We have added a host of services to our existing portfolio and are emerging as an integrated logistics player in the country.
AGL was recently honoured with the prestigious Seatrade 'Deal of the year award' for the acquisition of ECU Line. In addition, AGL has also received the 'Logistics Award' by Lloyd's List, a benchmark for excellence within the industry. In another proud moment for AGL, our CMD S. K. Container freight stations are an extension of the port, enabling the Customs clearance of export and import cargo and the warehousing of cargo without congesting the ports. The Allcargo group today has CFSs at JNPT, Chennai and Mundra, covering the ports accounting for almost 80 per cent of India's containerised cargo. Today, AGL's JN Port CFS can handle more than 10,000 TEUs per month on a continuous basis and has consolidated its position as a leader in Mumbai. It handled close to 1.2 lakhs TEUs in 2007. It has the second highest throughput in Mumbai.
Together with its new facilities at Chennai and Mundra, AGL currently has a total capacity of around 2 lakhs TEUs and continues to establish a strong foothold month after month. Spread over 24 acres, its Chennai CFS is one of the closest to the Chennai Port and is on expansion mode. At Chennai, Allcargo is gaining market share and is set to become one of the leading CFS players in the market. With the increase in capacity, the Chennai CFS will be able to handle greater volumes. AGL has received an excellent response from it customers due to the goodwill it enjoys as a leading logistics services provider.
